Generally I like to start out with a disclaimer. I am an contemporary witch.  I look for the connection between magic and science without the need to search for a creator. I am a practicing photo reader and have spent the last 16 years honing my craft.  I offer personal readings by request and have a strong online history that boasts over 412,000 views.


As with my other reviews, I'll start with a review of the physical book.  The cover of the book is pale and smooth to the touch. I would suspect this will come with a dust jacket when ready for sale. There is a two and a half page index in the back as well as a glossary of terms. This book is resource heavy and includes a list of other books to read as well as two pages front and back with maps of the feet and hands.

The book is divided into sections and begins with a basic history of what reflexology is and how to get started. It covers the science behind the pressure therapy as well as how it was perceived in the ancient world. I found the section on understanding the body and reflexology particularly interesting. This section breaks down what reflexology does with the individual systems, the respiratory, cardiovascular and lymphatic systems for example, and gives the reader an overview not only what to expect but also what is happening behind the scenes in our body when this pressure therapy is applied.

I love the way the book goes on to explain how important creating a healing space is for this work. As with any other energy work, setting the stage is key. It recommends chairs, music and essential oils to provide a place to allow the body to experience the full benefit of this healing technique.

Chapters seven through ten go through the parts of the body and help you get to know what you think you may already know. It covers stretching and rotating the feed to relax the entire body. It goes on to talk about the solar plexus, the waistline and how to locate the sciatic line. This drive directly home in part four of the book as we start addressing more parts of the body and how reflexology plays a role in managing these areas.

Each chapter builds on the previous to give the reader a step by step guide in understanding  how to use reflexology to address possible meridian blocks, energy stops or gaps that are causing road blocks to overall health and wellness. My hubby has a lower lumbar fusion and multiple herniated discs in his neck.  I tried the four finger walking technique on him today as I wrote this because was having a great deal of pain.  I started with the four finger walking across the area aligned with his spine and then worked with the sciatic nerve area.  He experienced a "whoosh" (his words) going up the leg I was working on which came down the other side of the body into his opposite leg and food which began to throb.  I moved to the throbbing foot and noticed his face flushed red as I finished.  He mentioned that he was feeling better even though it was our first attempt at working with reflexology.

Over all this is a great intro guide. It provides good information and is loaded with details, however I felt it could have benefited from more illustrations.
