Ten years ago this month I met and fell in love with my
amazing hubby; we started on what we called our five year plan. Our plan was that we would own our own home
within that time frame. By year two we
were both unemployed due to layoffs in our industry and we were just trying to
make ends meet.
We had a kid to get out of high school and get into college
as well as a budding boxer business to get off the ground. With each door that closes another opens, and
we ended up in a position that would allow us to continue to assist with the
kid’s education but also allow us to move to the east coast.
November 2005 we drove to the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park
and saw this view:

By the end of the year we were all moved in. I did several turn and burn plane rides to
bring Sheba, Duchess and the kid to NC. We had seasons!

“We're determined to buy a house next year, and to do that we need to pay down some debt, and save some money.” You can do it, PJ! All it takes is self control in sticking with your plans. :) Anyway, nice DIY project! It’s perfect for the ones who are bored with just plain glass pieces. Kudos!

You and your husband are certainly doing a good job of sticking to your five-year plan of buying and owning a house. A smart plan and determination can definitely make for a potent combination for success. How did you pay for the house though? Did you get a mortgage or loan? People tend to go for options like that to buy a house.
@Sara Owens
We did get a mortgage. At times we wish we would have waited a bit. Maybe chose a different area. The jobs here for him are few and far between. But we're hanging in there.
Thanks so much, yes you will want to pay down the debt, another thing you may want to do is make sure things like central air and heat are included. Our house had window units for air and a propane heater. If I had to do it over again I would have pushed for central air. We added a wood stove last year and it heats the house nicely but you do have to do the work for it. Good luck in getting your ducks in a row for your plan!
