Samhain's Sirens - Witchy Wednesday

Can I just says - SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Happy October!  It is that time of year that makes me sing and dance.

Google Images
As you may have heard I've teamed up with an amazing bunch of people for the month of October.  You'll find some amazing recipes, blogs, crafts and yes even giveaways over at the Samhain Siren's blog.  I highly recommend heading over there and checking it out!

Keep a sharp eye out.  I'll be joining those extremely talented folks with a couple giveaway's of my own from BaubleSmith

Witchy Wednesday - Bringing the Magic Back to BaubleSmith

A little over 7 months ago a hurricane came thought and flooded a large portion of Eastern North Carolina.  My little corner of the world was included in the area.  We were luckier than most in that we only lost our vardo and our ability to vend for the next year.  Heartbreaking as it is so many people were in a much more harsh situation than we were/are in.  The water in the river is still very high and at this point we still have water on our property.  But at least we can stay on our property. Some cannot even return to their homes.

When our business sailed down the river, hubby and I discussed the best way to move forward and we thought about changing direction in our business and trying to become more mainstream vs. our direct Pagan/Witchy direction.  We revamped the website and I started marketing.  We have found that no matter how hard I try, I tend to sprinkle magic in here and there. Examples include - Hubby wants to make bath salts, I go off on a tangent about how wonderful that is and how we should do ritual bath soaks with ones for Samhain, Yule .... you get the picture.

Next he wants to make resin bracelets.  My eyes glaze over as I start recommending pentacles and ravens and you see where I'm going.

As we tried to make our more mainstream, the magic found its way in. As we rebuild from this devastation and it could be up to 3 years before the buyouts are completed by the state, We sit here trying to understand where we're going and what we're going to be doing while we wait for the uncertainty that is dealing with governmental agencies. All we can do is keep the magic flowing and direct our energies towards making life at this place better while we are here.

I'm beginning to pick up my clay again.  I may have some new items showing up in the shop soon. I've created some goddess pieces that I can't wait to share with you.  I have also added some candles back to the shop. These were always wonderful additions and I know that they will continue to help bring light to those who need it.

So today, I'm waiting.  I'm watching. I'm spelling. Directing the forces of nature and the powers of the elements to guide this process to an end. I hear three years but, I long for 3 weeks.

So mote it be.

Witchy Wednesday - Trademarking Yule

This week I want to use my blog to call attention to something I recently learned about.  A member of the Pagan community has decided that Yule belongs to her. Yes, you heard me kids. The owner of Sage Goddess, has filed a federal Trademark request to make YULE her trademark. She is also already sending cease and desist letters to other vendors who use the word Yule in their product names.

Here's a screenshot from Tradmarkia.com.  It appears that she is filing for this under the Cosmetics and Cleaning Products category, which I believe would include body wash, bath salts and scrubs or cleansing/ritual products. I know many of us have products in that category.

Screen-cap from trademarkia.com
So what exactly is a trademark?

trademarktrade mark, or trade-mark[1] is a recognizable signdesign, or expression which identifies products or services of a particular source from those of others,[2][3] although trademarks used to identify services are usually called service marks.[4][5] The trademark owner can be an individual, business organization, or any legal entity. A trademark may be located on a package, a label, a voucher, or on the product itself. For the sake of corporate identity, trademarks are often displayed on company buildings.  -Wikipedia

I found Sage Goddess, Inc on the web and a contact form.  I did leave her a message asking her to reconcider her application.  You can find her contact form here.  If she doesn't reconsider, we do have other options.  You can write an email to this link to oppose her hijacking our holiday.  Also, here's a link to a petition created by Charissa Iskiwitch for consumers who oppose it and this link for seller's who oppose it.

Remember to be considerate and professional when reaching out to these pages.  We want to be sure that we are heard and shouting usually results in the volume being turned down so speak clearly, eloquently and professionally.

We also need to consider that there is precedent here.  Meaning that other Pagan holidays have been Trademarked prior to this one. A quick search on the Trademark index found six entries for a trademark on Samhain.

Screenshot - TESS

I have to say I did sign the petitions.  I am writing the blog to call attention to this cause but after my participation in the discussions on Social Media Sites, I'm pretty sure that it is a moot point. Other holidays have been trademarked and nothing was done.  What makes Yule different?

I asked Charissa for a statement as she is the one spearheading this campaign to oppose the trademark of the word Yule.  She had this to say:

As consumers Yule is a standard search word we use to find scented product such as perfume, candles, room sprays, waters, colognes and incense.  Trademarking a word as widely used as this will limit those searches to the product of one company.  It will allow one company to force hundreds, if not thousands of small businesses to take that word out of their product names.
I do not currently have any products in my business line using the word Yule.  For me personally, because I have not put any money into developing and marketing such a product I can easily choose a different name if I decided to offer a holiday scented product.  However, many small businesses run on a shoestring budget.  They have invested in listing fees, labels, printed marketing material and internet advertising.  It will cost them a significant amount of money and time to make those changes to their product line.  I believe that puts undue hardship on our business community.
My only goal in this is to protect our business community from trademarking generic descriptive words.  As businesses, we should be working together rather than competing.

However this is decided it is certain that people are becoming more willing to get involved in things that they feel violate their rights.  Does the community have a case here?  Will this trademark application be granted?  I'll continue to follow this story.  Feel free to leave your thoughts.

UPDATE

An article on The Wild Hunt indicated the the request for the trademark had been rescinded.

Inner Witch Photo Challenge - Day 31

Loren of Primitive Witchery shared a meme earlier this month and I just saw it last night so I'm blaming Facebook for my late start on this Photo Challenge.

So the basics are you share a picture for each day of October based on the chart below. Tag your photo or post with the hashtag #innerwitchoctober

Tips for Tagging - A Blogger's Story

So over the last month I've been working to get my blog the way I want it to look.  I know that in order to keep your readership up you need to engage your audience.  There are several ways to do this.  The hottest idea right now is related posts.

Screenshot - Confessions of a Modern Witch

This is where your readers can see other stories that relate to the one they just read.  This is great for getting folks to see how much you blog about a particular subject.  What seems like a simple element to add to your blog; this one really gave me a fit. It made me decide to jot down a few tips on tagging that might help others deal with this better.

1. Tagging is important.
Tags help you put your content in buckets.  While Twitter would have us believe that it is just a way to draw attention to a particular word, in blogging this is how your content is categorized.  It may be cute to have 500 tags, but it isn't really good for your blog.  Try to limit your tag use to very specific areas you intend to blog about.

2. Singular and Plural.
Tag is not the same as Tags.  Remember that if you blog about jars it will create a separate tag when you want to talk about one jar.  Something small but just limited your (s) will more than likely cut your tag list down in size.

3. Spelling.   SPELLING
For general purposes we know as bloggers (web writers) that spelling is important, however if you think someone is important enough to make it a tag; you should probably be extra careful in setting up your tags so that you don't come back three years later and find out that you have tagged five stories with samhian instead of samhain.

4. Hashtags
Again I blame Twitter here for making us believe that all tags should be prefaced with the pound sign or hashtag.  While it is used in several social media applications, Blogger is not one of them.  I spent 12 hours yesterday recreating all of my hashtags since this blog started over 5 years ago to "fix" my hashtag mistake.

5. Hashtags are categories
While this seems super simple one thing to keep in mind when creating hashtags is that these are intended for your audience to find your content.  These are like keywords but also more like a label. Think about an old school library card catalog.  Your blog is a card catalog and the tags are the index cards that a reader can use to find your posts (books).  While it might be a great idea to create tags for Christianity, Wicca and Islam it may also make sense to create a fourth tag for religion.  This will help your related posts relate more readily.

While these things will not solve all your issues, I have found through experience that creating and managing an effective tag cloud will help keep your content a bit more streamlined and allow your readers to find what you're trying to say a bit easier.

Hope it helps!

Happy Blogging

Death and Dying in Reality

De mortuis nil nisi bonum - (“Of the dead, nothing unless good.”)

We hear this spoken usually after someone who was not a nice person dies.  I read a blog post recently that had the following quote:

"You should have got your criticism in when they were still alive, and preferably, while they still had some power. We don’t speak ill of the dead because it’s not just distasteful: it’s cowardly."  -Source

Well, while I get the gist of that.  I am completely one who will indeed speak my mind when presented with the opportunity.  Now that doesn't mean  I'm going to spread rumors, run someone down I have blocked on social media while professing some sort of spiritual superiority.  What it does mean that I am not going to support someone who I feel has their feet firmly placed in racism, bigotry or any negativity at all when they stand to the world professing spiritual awareness.  It means that while I will work within the bounds of professionalism, if someone comes to me me looking for what what you have to offer, I will direct them to someone else who has less baggage.  That's just a fact.  Now, that being said, why would I treat the dead any different?

Back in 2011 I entered a blog contest to win a copy of Christian Day's Witches Book of the Dead. I wrote about my cousin Tony, who passed away while I was living in California.  His brothers had moved him while he was passed out and bound him to a stop sign at a three way crossroad near my house with plastic wrap as a joke.  He never regained consciousness.  The police ruled his death an accident. When the book arrived I got to page 137, The Ritual of the Crossroads the way Hecate is described as being at the crossroads, that point where the worlds of the living and dead can often meet was a powerful visualization for me.

With the coming of Samhain many groups on social media are having discussions around ancestor altars and who should or should not be included on them.  My altar has an assortment of photos, trinkets and possessions of those who have moved on.  This is a very spiritual time for me, when I call upon those who have moved on to send energy and knowledge in exchange for my respecting and willingness to learn.

There are those who are intentionally left off the altar.  I do not want their energy or their knowledge.  I knew them too well in physical world.  They caused too much pain here in this life to be honored in anyway in their passing.

When starting your ritual altar on don't feel that you have to do anything like one book or one person says.  This is a personal space for you to honor those who have moved on from this life.  It is a time for you to do work that is important to you.  Don't feel like you have to add people or include energy that you're not comfortable with.

In my discussions, I found that some think they have to include a certain person for fear of them creating havoc in their home because they have "disrespected the dead".  Personally I believe that not all dead are worthy of respect.  Not every one who has crossed over is someone that should be honored no different than if they were here in the physical realm.  If you have unruly dead making mischief in your house you need to take control of the situation and move them out, not give in and place them in higher regard.

Death is a transition to the next part of the energy exchange.  It can be sad but it should be looked at as a natural part of life.  Working with the dead is about listening and learning.  We should listen twice as much as we speak in order to learn as much as we can. We should also learn that our time on this planet is limited.  If we want to have others not speak ill of us after we move on, then maybe we should be a little more considerate of others while we have that opportunity.  Not the other way around.

I'd love to see what altars you create or what rituals you do working with the dead this week.  Feel free to post here or find me on social media at Tsu or Facebook.

Gratitude Challenge - Day 4

I was invited to a Facebook Event called Gratitude Challenge, you can find it here.  For 20 consecutive days beginning August 1st, we're writing down things we're grateful for.  I thought it would be cool to add them as blog posts.  So for the next 20 days I'll be adding an entry a day.  Feel free to reply here and tell me what you're grateful for or head over to the event page and join the challenge.

Day 4

I am grateful for my online friends.   I have gaming friends.  I play Words With Friends & Stormfall on Facebook.  I also play Everquest II.

Some of my friends are old school friends from when I was a child and others are friends from when I worked with a computer BBS back in the 80's.  Other friends are newly acquired and I love them dearly.

I have friends that collaborate with me on blog projects like, The Sunday Stew and the Samhain Sirens project.

Blessed Samhain/Beltane

Over the years I've learned that everyone will not agree.  This year is no exception.  Two of my favorite times of the year are Beltane and Samhain.  I love the fiery nature of the day and I love what they both represent.  One with its sexual passion and the other it’s ending the cycle of life by honoring those passed.
This is a fantastic time to clean out negativity in your life.  Open the door to new beginnings and try to let go of those things that are dragging you down.  It is time to start anew.

This year I’m working on releasing a few things and welcoming a few things.

I release the expectation that others understand me.
I release the desire to explain myself to others.
I release the need to please others.
I welcome new friends.
I welcome new opportunities.
I welcome new understanding.

As we look around the world today it is full of people who would rather toss us up on the proverbial stake as opposed to getting to know us, even in the smallest way.  We don’t need to spend our days destroying each other.  I’m saying that we ignore bad behavior or give a pass to those who are attacking others.  What I am saying it before you jump, stop and breathe.  Look at the evidence.  If you’re wrong, say you’re wrong and don’t follow that apology with the word “but”.

I wish each one of you a very blessed day, I’ll be honoring those in my life that have moved on and ask that Hecate with her fiery torches light the way for their journey.

Pagan Blog Project 2013 - U is for Ubiquitous

Ubiquitous is defined as being everywhere at once.

When I read the definition of this word, I double checked to be sure there was not a picture of me in there.  Over my life I have found that generally I multitask.  I am everywhere at a one time.  When I’m cooking, I’m also reading and looking and thinking and listing.  The brain just goes and goes and goes.

My pagan life is the same.  Currently I’m assisting on a calendar project.  This project helped me sit down and finally write about solar vs. lunar calendars and how they came to be.  I’m participating in Pagan Blog Project, obviously as well as serving as a moderator for two groups on Facebook.  I’m currently attempting to read several books for COH work as well as a book for work learning SQL. And participating in the Samhain’s Sirens October Blog Project.

My brain is indeed ubiquitous.

I’m also struggling with the holidays coming up.  This time of the year is often hard for me and my mania has a tendency to rear its ugly head.

I’ve started opening my days by lighting a candle on my entryway altar and burning a bit of sage.  I’m going to spend a little longer time there each morning to try to create a spot where I can park that ubiquitous mind and let it rest.  Maybe only for a few seconds right now, but my goal is to hopefully get to a point when I might be able to attempt some meditation.

Learning to live with my mind is a challenge.  It is always needing a project, or a plan.  I always need to have something going on.  I never EVER relax.  I never EVER stop.  I am always on, I am all over. And for now, I am ubiquitous.

Blessings

Pagan Blog Project 2013 - S is for S

This week for my S post, I had several that I wanted to do.  They were all promo type pieces and fairly short.  Which to pick?  What should I do?  I know, combine them all!  So for my post on S, my S is for S.  Have a look at all these S’s in my life.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Stew Chef Button
The Sunday Stew
My first S is the Sunday Stew.  Formatted and presented by Kallan Kennedy on her blog – The Secret Life of the American Witch, the Sunday Stew is published weekly on each Sunday of the month with special Sabbath Editions following the wheel of the year.

The Sunday Stew is a wholesome serving of life experiences from an eclectic group of Chefs.  Like getting a three card reading from a dear friend, the Sunday Stew offers a look at the past through the Pagan Lore; a look at today with the Pagan News and a look at the future with the Astrology section.

Look for the Mabon Edition coming out September 22nd and if you’re interested in contributing to the Stew email Kallan Kennedy for more information.

Samhain's Sirens Button
The Samhain’s Sirens Blog Extravaganza
My second S is the Samhain’s Sirens Blog Extravaganza.  This is the second year I have participated in the Samhain’s Sirens Blog.  It consists of a full month of wonderment beginning October 1st and ending on Samhain, the 31st.  This year the event is being hosted by the lovely Serena Siren.  She will be announcing updates on her Facebook Page and welcomes new friends.
Serena has created a Blog page on Facebook that will provide updates on the new posts as well as any *extra* special editions to the blogging.  The extravaganza will consist of bloggers from all over the internet with each day ending with a special giveaway.  The blogs will be published on the Samhain’s Sirens blog page found on Blogger.

I will be hosting the Saturday Craft-Tacular again this year, offering an assortment of crafts with easy step by step instructions.  Each one ending with a chance to win the featured craft.
Be sure to head over and *like* the Samhain’s Sirens Facebook Page & follow the blog on blogger so you don’t miss any of the fun.

                                                      Sosanna’s Closet
My third S is for Sosanna’s Closet.  My own shop that I created out of my home just a little over two years ago.  With the assistance of my soul mate, I take my wonderful creations around to different events in Eastern/Central NC and Southern VA.

My goal for the shop was to offer quality products at a reasonable price.  For the last year I've been creating clay statues as well as protection masks and pendants out of natural wet clay and polymer clay.

Protection Mask by Renee Olson

We offer altar supplies that don’t come from a big chain.  Each one individually made, each spell written by me and not copied from a book.  From the Juniper berries to the grave yard dirt, each ingredient comes from one specified source and when possible my own property.

Patchouli Oil - Renee Olson
Ritual Bath Soaks - Renee Olson
In addition to the retail part of the shop, I also conduct a dark moon ritual monthly where offerings to the Goddess Hecate are presented at the crossroads.  I accept energy requests, blessings and ceremonial magic for protection, prosperity and cleansing at no charge.

On both this blog and on the web page I have information on energy requests.  My Facebook page lists new products before they are added to the webpage.  So for a sneak peek at my new items head over and *like* my page.

So that’s it.  These are a few of the S’s currently in my life.  I hope you've enjoyed this look at some of things I really enjoy working on.
Until next week

Pagan Blog Project 2013 - P is for Pagan

Pagan /ˈpāgən/

A person holding religious beliefs other than those of the main world religions. The origin of the word is said to be Pagus, Latin for country dweller.  Some say that gentile, idolater and health are synonyms.  Basically a pagan is someone whose religious views are other than Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

Pretty simple when you think about it. No matter how you slice and dice the religions, anything outside those three religions would fall under the pagan umbrella.  Much like how anything outside of a Catholic, would be considered a Protestant.

When one country conquers another country many of the customs of the old country are melded into the customs of the new and a new custom is created.  For example if we look at the yearly calendar for example there is clear evidence of this.  Many holidays have transitioned into something much different than the original.

We can take the American holiday Halloween for example.  Halloween is based on a melding of several different days.  Samhain is an ancient Celtic festival celebrated to prepare for the winter and honor the dead.  Being a fire festival common traditions included bonfires.  Some believed that on this night the veil was the thinnest between the living and the dead and would leave treats out for the dead to find.  Others would carve turnips into frightening faces to keep watch over their homes.  This laid the foundation for our modern Halloween traditions, including trick or treating, wearing masks and of course the dear jack-o-lantern. Other holidays such as Christmas, Easter and even Groundhog day have Pagan DNA.

I believe the same thing happens with religion.

I’ve been a party to several group discussion around Pagans who follow Jesus.  I read over and over again how they include Jesus as part of their God/dess collection and consider themselves to be Christians.  This always confuses me.  I can only compare it with my own belief structure.

1.       I am a Pagan because I do not follow one of the three world religions.
2.       I am a Witch because I cast spells and practice candle magic.
3.       I am not Wiccan because I have not been initiated into an order.
4.       I am Hecatean because I follow Hecate.

Now, looking at those statements I can validate each.  When someone says they are Christian these are what I see.

1.       They am Christian because I believe that Jesus is the son of the God of Abraham, the one true God.
2.       They believe that Jesus is the Messiah.
3.       They believe that Jesus died on the cross and arose 3 days later.
4.       They have accepted that I am a sinner and that I can only be saved by believing 1-3.

Ok, see where I get confused?  A pagan by definition is a follower of something other than the three world religions.  A Christian can only believe that the God of Abrahman is the one true God.  You can’t really say I’m a Christian who also follows Bast.  Well, let me rephrase, you certainly can say whatever you’d like to say, but based on what the ‘rules’ for Christianity are, you’re not.
I did do a bit of generalizations on the “What I believe a Christian is” because each group has different requirements.  There are different paths in Christianity.  Catholics believe that a person must get Last Rites before they die.  Some believe that if you’re not baptized you are not a Christian.  So I guess technically one could argue that in their particular “pagan” path Jesus is the son of God and they have other Gods or Goddesses as well.

Personally I believe its fine to have or not have a religion.  A person may be able to embrace what a particular God or Goddess stands for without having to believe that they were an actual being.  To me I believe that we are all energy and when we finally get it right, we can all join together in that pool and be at peace.

Pagan Blog Project 2013 - N is for Nudity

N is for Nudity

One of the most interesting things about paganism is how many people thing I spend most of my time naked.  I've been asked if I dance around a fire naked, if I walk in the woods naked and if I dance in the rain naked on more than one occasion.
It’s one of those things that just makes me giggle.  I've only participated in outdoor rituals with a group twice.  I've never really seen anyone get naked it. Granted as I said it was only twice.  Now at home that’s different.

I don’t go outside.  First, I live in Eastern NC and there are TONS of mosquitoes.  I've had bites on my arms and legs but really, do you want to have bites on your tushie?  No.  So for the most part when I do my rituals I do not do them outside.  Occasionally when I need to protect my property, make offerings to the ancestors on Samhain or bless a new tree, I will go outside for this.
My weekly rituals are done inside my home.  I have a small altar built by my hubby set up facing towards the east.  I have candles and incense burning and I am indeed nude or sky-clad.

Many believe that practicing sky-clad makes it easier for the transfer of energy and a surge of magical power.  I’m not sure that I could practice in a group nude.  One of my earliest introductions into Wicca was via a friend who practiced nude.  In fact the majority of the time I saw her, she was nude.  I’m not sure it was so much for the Goddess but more so for her comfort level and I applaud her for the ability to feel so comfortable in her own skin.

Today I start my ritual with a bath and usually a glass of wine or other alcoholic beverage to ease the nerves, then begin by disrobing and starting my ritual cleaning of the space.  I’m sure if someone could peek in my window and see a slightly plump, slowly creeping towards middle age witch, walking around with a bundle of sage in one hand and a candle in the other, buck naked they’d probably call the law. To be sure I’m up to some mischievousness.

The older I get the less I care about what other people think.  I know that I am comfortable in who I am and even though my feelings may be get hurt, in the long run this is what I have.  My body and my skin.  This is what I own.  When drawing down the power of the Goddess I choose to disrobe and welcome the energy though every space on my body.  I honor this energy by opening my body up to accept what can be drawn down from the moon.

If you've not had the opportunity to practice nude, I recommend trying it at least one time.  Not necessarily in a group, but as a solitary solute to the energies that be.  It can be quite refreshing.

Pagan Blog Project 2013 - I is for Invoke

Invoke as defined on dictionary.com is to call with earnest desire; make supplication or pray for or to call on a deity or muse.

When I look at invoking the Goddess however, many books like “Drawing Down the Moon”, refer to this is a form of voluntary possession.  A person is actually calling out to the deity to enter their body and communicate with them directly or with others using the person as a vehicle to share that message.

In the following video, Sorita E’Este describes how one might invoke the Goddess Hecate.

As part of my research for this post I had a look at evoke, which is sometimes used interchangeably for invoke and found most define it as more of a request to join or a reminder of a particular style for example and less like a demand for presence.

So if we were to say, this piece evokes Michangleo, we mean that the style reminds us or brings forth the same essence of the artist.

As part of my rituals and in some of my work on Samhain, I do invoke the Goddess Hecate to come and share her wisdom with me.  I ask that through her the spirits of those who have past come and give their knowledge or share their stories with me.  I never “demand” the presence or summon spirits to participate in my rites.   To mean, invoking is calling out to a deity and inviting them to enter my body.  It’s not a summoning or demeaning thing.

After I get my space ready and cleanse the area, I use the "Invocation of the Goddess Hekate" from the Rite of her Sacred Fires.

I am always extremely respectful when I work with magic.  In my opinion it’s a bit arrogant to expect Gods and Goddesses to be sitting around waiting to be called into a circle.  I think that they have more important things to do than worry about a football game or to make sure my computer boots in the morning.  I think what many people miss is that we are on auto play.  Our world, our lives play out and unfold each day before us without any big plan from the higher ups.  I think that our goal should be to just be good to each other.

We call our deities to help us understand a situation or an outcome.  Ask them to give us the wisdom to react to this ride called life in a caring and understanding way.  We are not here to demand anything; instead we are here to learn from those that have gone before us, call upon them for guidance and wisdom and forego the request for a touchdown.

Pagan Blog Project 2013 - H is for Haunting

A haunting is usually a replay of something from the past.  Most hauntings are residual hauntings.  Meaning one moment in time gets replayed over and over.  One example of this might be of a farmer going outside to milk cows.  Usually it is something that the person did in their life over and over, and it’s like the needle is stuck on replay.

When we started to remodel our carport to turn it into a kennel building for our dogs, hubby and I experienced a lot of residual paranormal activity.  On several separate occasions hubby saw an older gentleman walking first into the closet, which we used to store yard tools, then out the back door into the yard.  When I saw him, he was usually walking around in the back yard, wearing a blue baseball cap.  He never noticed us and seemed to be going about his daily chores.  The idea of residual hauntings is much like the “Stone Tape” theory.  Basically it means that the surroundings, trees, rocks and even buildings record the energy of an event, and under certain circumstances the brain can pick up these “tapped incidents” and the eyes see them.  When dealing with a residual haunting, the ghost or entity will not interact with the outside world.  It simply walks or moves through the paces of a previously completed pattern.

Now, at the same time, you can also have what is called an intelligent haunting.   Intelligent haunts are those which the energy or entity actually interacts with the living world.  This can range from knocking things off a shelf to having responses to questions.  I have had three incidents where I interacted with the energy here.

The first time was when we first moved into our bedroom.  The end of my hall way seems to be the source of the energy.  I almost feel as though it is a conduit for the paranormal energy coming into and going out of the house.  On each side of the end of the hallway are doors.  One leads out offices and the other to our bedroom.  Originally when we set up the bedroom we had the head of the bed against that wall, with the foot facing east.  At night when I’d lay down, I’d feel a face come around the corner from the end of the hall and stare right into my face in a silent scream.  It became so worrisome that I had to move the bed to the opposite side of the room.  Now my head is pointing towards the east and the foot of my bed to the west in the direction of the door.
The next time I was sitting in the Kitchen and was doing research on the lady (Mrs. Mantha Rose) who owned the house before me.  She passed away and her family put the house up for sale.  I was reading her obituary in the local paper archives when I felt a presence in the room.  As I was reading her obituary out loud, I looked over my shoulder and there was a man standing by the pantry.  I said the first name Perry Brock and the entity shook his head no.  I then read Thurman Rose and he nodded in the affirmative and disappeared.

The final time I was sitting in my office working and I heard a loud crash from our bedroom.  I went inside the room and found my jewelry box flipped neatly upside down on the floor in front of the bed.  It had been sitting on the dresser.  It have flown 3-4 feet through the air and landed with open face down on the floor.  I started to pick my stuff up and I noticed that hubby’s mother’s ring was on the floor behind the bed.  It was a good 2 feet farther away than the rest of the contents of the box.  When I began putting my stuff back in the box I noticed that my amethyst crystal had shattered completely.  I've often felt the presence of energy here in the house and have come to accept that others may live here and it is OK.

Today I have my ancestor alter set up with photos of those who have passed.  I've included the ring that was tossed behind the bed, just to see if there is some energy associated it with.

I make offerings to the dead on Samhain and pay my respects throughout the year.  I completely believe that hauntings are a real thing and usually aren't something to be afraid of.
